"RAINDROPS on roses and whiskers on kittens,
bright colored petals and warm woolen mittens,
wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings,
these are a few of my favorite things."
Hey all. Today's a great day for a good day. There's so much we can learn about taking baby through taking baby steps. It's honestly a very important skill to learn, in my opinion. Are you a traveller? Fellow traveller? Heck yes. Anything importante you have to share, well you might as well share it soon because not sharing it won't do anything good for the world.
My life is an open book. What do you wanna know? My childhood was supremely tailored to my individual idiosyncrasies, and I enjoyed it so awesomely well. Brownie pans, chasing dogs, crawling in mud, chasing my brother and sister with a waterhose and getting scolded for wasting water, I have a vivid memory of a lot of happenings that happened, it's pretty great.
I have memories of hiking with my dad in the woods, feeling like his little "trooper" and "scouting the area" for danger. I was always in awe by my dad's occupation, the military. It just sounded cool. I was determined to one day be a female jet fighter because I was going to be like Dad.
I also wanted to be the best chef, like my Mom. I had my mind set on being able to cook literally anything without a recipe book. I was a dreamer. I liked to write, pretend I was a character on the run in the woods behind our house. I liked to use my dad's camera to make "movies" and set up the cast using Heather Jane (she really helped me out and put up with my creative impulses) and when Trey was a bit older, I'd use him as well. Often though, he was too young an ended up being a side toddler in case something happened.
Holidays were amazing. The Christmas tree turned into the "Holiday Hotel" (Which I never finished writing a short story about) but we'd have so much fun listening to Frank Sinatra, and classic Christmas music while helping our Mom out with the decorations. I'd use a small fountain gifted to Mom to be our own "waterfall" and it was the absolute best. I often imagined Santa and what he would look like. It filled my heart with so much joy knowing Santa was going to come and leave us gifts. I often wrote him LONG letters, about how I'm just a ordinary child in an ordinary world, but Santa, I have to thank you for thinking about me. I'm just so glad you can find our house and make a stop in Cullman Alabama. PS the carrots are for Rudolph. Of course I'd often forget about the letters due to the excitement of hovering Christmas eve, but I enjoy the memories now looking back and seeing my eight year old self wanting a fish light tank with a lava lamp. Oh and don't forget the dolphin posters. Santa had to know about my love and fascination with ocean life.
Stringing popcorn with Grandma, watching countless episodes of Franklin the turtle and Little Bear. Man, I had the life as a kid during the holidays (well I had the life as a kid most of the time, but the holidays were that extra spice in the year.)
Singing, attending friend's concerts, listening to my favorite holiday tunes, and watching classic kid Christmas movies.
Where did the time go???
Of course the new year always came greatly. I always tried to read from my Book of Mormon and other scriptures. I remember distinctly laying on my parent's bed, just feeling good about the feelings I got from at least attempting to read them. I'd then fiddle around on my dad's laptop and make powerpoint presentations with little moving gifs and characters.
My mom would substitute teach in my classes at times. I had fun when that would happen. I suddenly became a little obnoxious (unlike the well behaved quiet child I tried to be when my actual teachers were there.)
Oh yes. I remember my kid-hood so well. :)
Fun fun times filled with adventure, excitement, emotions, mac and cheese, spelling bee preparations, making cookies for FHE, making a mock tree of life with a pear fruit for a family home evening lesson (my and heather's excitement to be the one to teach the lesson was usually extreme) and hoping everyone would dress up to be like in Nephi's times (usually with my mom and dad not willing to comply when it came to dressing up) XD
Wow! The more I write down my memories, the more they come to me. The human brain is an amazing tool, you know.
